Haredi Yahudilik (İbraniceחֲרֵדִיḤaredim) veya ultra-Ortodoks Yahudilik, Ortodoks Yahudilik mezhebi içindeki, modernizmin aksine geleneklere[1] ve halaha emirlerine[2] sıkı sıkıya bağlılığı ile bilinen Yahudilik mezhebidir.[3][4] Üyelerine genellikle ultra-Ortodoks denir, fakat "ultra-Ortodoks" terimi taraftarlarının birçoğu tarafından aşağılayıcı olarak kabul edilmektedir.[5] Haredi Yahudileri, diğer insanlar tarafından tartışılmasına rağmen, kendilerini en dindar ve otantik Yahudi grubu olarak görürler.[5]

Aydınlanma, kültürleşme, sekülerleşme, hafif veya aşırı her türlü dini reform, Yahudi ulusal hareketlerinin yükselişi, vb. Modern Ortodoks Yahudiliğin aksine Haredi Yahudiliğinin takipçileri genellikle halaha ve geleneklerine olan bağlılıklarından taviz vermezler, ve sonuç olarak kendilerini bir ölçüde toplumun diğer bölgelerinden ayırırlar.[6] Bununla birlikte birçok Haredi topluluğu, gençlerini, en iyi şekilde öğrenim görerek prestijli bir diploma almaya veya bir iş kurmaya (işletme açmaya) teşvik ederler.[7]

Haredi toplulukları en fazla, sırasıyla İsrail, Kuzey Amerika, ve Batı Avrupa'da bulunur.[8] Tahmini küresel nüfus sayıları 1.8 milyonun üzerindedir.[9][10] Farklı dinler arası evlilik olmaması ve yüksek doğum oranı nedeniyle Haredi nüfusu hızla artmaktadır.[11] Nüfusları, 1960'larda görülen 'Baal Teşuva' hareketinin etkisi sebebiyle Haredi yaşam tarzını benimseyen çok sayıda diğer mezheplerden Yahudi tarafından da artırıldı.[12][13][14][15]

İlk defa Isaac Leeser (1806–1868), 1916'da "ultra-Ortodoks" sözcüğünü kullanmış ve tanımlanmıştır.[16][17] Haredi ifadesi, Yeşaya Kitabı'nda (66:2;[18] çoğul haredim Yeşaya 66:5[19]) görünür. Tanah'dan türetilen Modern İbranice bir terimdir ve "YHVH'ın sözü" anlamına gelir. Tanrı Yehova'nın iradesini gerçekleştirmek için hayranlık uyandıran bir korku ve endişeyi de ifade eder.[20][21] Bu sözcük onları, diğer Ortodoks Yahudileri'nden ayırmak için kullanılır (Hristiyanlıkta Quakers'ım Tanrı ile ilişkilerini tanımlamak için kullanılan isime benzer).[22]
