Kariyer

Karting

Giovinazzi 2000 yılında karting'e başladı.[2] 2006 yılında, İtalyan Ulusal 60cc Kupası ve Avrupa 60cc Kupası şampiyonalarını kazandı.[3] WSK Master Series'in KF2 sınıfında 2010 ve 2011 yıllarında şampiyon oldu.[2]

Formula Pilota China

Giovinazzi tek kişilik koltuk yarışlarına 2012 yılında Formula Pilota China'da başladı.[4] İlk sezonunda altı galibiyet ile sezon şampiyonluğunu kazandı. Formula Three

Giovinazzi Double R Racing takımıyla 2013 İngiliz Formula 3 Şampiyonası'nda Sean Gelael ve Tatiana Calderón ile beraber yarıştı.[6] Silverstone ve Spa-Francorchamps'deki iki yarışı kazandı ve sezonu Jordan King'in arkasından ikinci olarak bitirdi.[7] Sezon sırasında Giovinazzi 2013 Masters of Formula 3'e girdi ve yarışı 10. olarak bitirdi.[8]

Giovinazzi 2014 FIA Formula 3 Avrupa Şampiyonası'nın Hockenheimring yarışındayken

2014 yılında Giovinazzi Jagonya Agam with Carlin ile 2014 FIA Formula 3 Avrupa Şampiyonası sezonunda yarışmak için anlaştı. [11] İlk Formula 3 podyumu Hockenheim'da aldığı 2. sıra ile geldi. İlk galibiyetini Red Bull Ring'de pol pozisyonunu da alarak kazandı, sonrasında Nürburgring'de gerçekleşen sonraki yarışı da galibiyet ile bitirdi. Sezonu 238 puan alarak 6. sırada bitirdi, iki galibiyet kazanıp yedi kez podyuma çıktı, iki pol pozisyonu aldı ve üç kez en hızlı tur istatistiğini elde etti.

Giovinazzi şampiyonaya Jagonya Agam with Carlin ile 2015'de devam etti, rakipleri arasında gelecekte Formula 1'de de rakibi olacak Charles Leclerc, Lance Stroll, George Russell ve Alexander Albon gibi isimler de vardı. Sezon boyunca şampiyonluk için bir aday olarak görüldü ama sezonun sonunda şampiyonluğu Felix Rosenqvist'e kaptırdı. Giovinazzi sezonu 412.5 puan alıp 2. olarak tamamladı. Sıralama yarışlarında ilk turda Daniel Juncadella ile çarpıştıktan sonra zincirleme bir kazaya sebep oldu. Sıralama yarışını kazandıktan sonra 20 saniyelik bir ceza alarak pol pozisyonunda 10. sıraya düştü. Yarışta 4. sıraya kadar çıkabildi.

Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters

Giovinazzi Audi Sport Team Phoenix'i 2015 yılında gerçekleşen bir DTM'de etkilemesiyle Moscow Raceaway için sakatlanan Pascal Wehrlein'ın yerini aldı, yarışları 19. ve 21. bitirdi.[12]

GP2 Series

Giovinazzi joined the series with Prema Powerteam for the 2016 season alongside Red Bull Junior and 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series runner-up Pierre Gasly.[14]

After a poor start by finishing outside the points and losing reverse grid pole in the first two rounds, Giovinazzi scored victories in both the feature and sprint races in Baku, becoming the first driver to do 'the double' since Davide Valsecchi in 2012.

Giovinazzi took pole position from his teammate Gasly at Spa, and won the Sprint Race after Gasly had won the feature race on Saturday.[15][16] At Monza, he took pole position, but was disqualified from the session due to a technical infringement. Despite starting from the back of the grid, he won in the Feature Race after a mix up involving the safety car that worked in his favour.[17]

Giovinazzi took the lead of the championship at Sepang by overtaking Sergey Sirotkin late on for his 5th win of the season.[18] However, Pierre Gasly's victory in the Abu Dhabi feature race meant that Gasly led by 12 points into the final race.[19] Giovinazzi finished the final race ahead of Gasly as Alex Lynn won the race, however, after making a poor start, he was unable to overturn the 12-point gap, and Gasly won the championship by 8 points.[20]

Had Giovinazzi won the championship, he would have been the first rookie champion since Nico Hülkenberg in 2009.[21] He would also have been the last ever GP2 champion as the series would become FIA Formula 2 Championship for 2017.

Formula 1 Kariyeri

Eylül 2016'da Giovinazzi'nin Scuderia Ferrari için simülatörde çalışacağı anons edildi.[22] Aralık ayında ise Ferrari'nin üçüncü sürücüsü olacağı kesinleşti.[23]

Sauber (2017-2018)

Giovinazzi participated in pre-season testing for the 2017 season with Sauber. In a similar fashion to his DTM debut two years prior, he substituted for the injured Pascal Wehrlein at the Australian Grand Prix. Wehrlein did not feel fit enough for a complete race distance due to his training deficit[24] as a result of a crash at the 2017 Race of Champions. Giovinazzi finished 12th on his debut.[25] His debut meant he was the first Italian driver to start a Formula One race since Jarno Trulli and Vitantonio Liuzzi at the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix. Sauber announced that Giovinazzi would again replace Wehrlein for the Chinese Grand Prix, where he crashed out during both qualifying and the race.[26] Giovinazzi later participated in six free practice sessions for the Haas F1 Team over the course of the 2017 season.[27]

Giovinazzi remained a reserve and test driver for Sauber and Ferrari in 2018. He took part in six free practice sessions for Sauber during the season.

Alfa Romeo (2019-şimdi)

On 25 September 2018 it was announced that Giovinazzi would race for Sauber (now Alfa Romeo) during the 2019 season, partnering Kimi Räikkönen and replacing Marcus Ericsson, who became the team's reserve driver.[28]

Giovinazzi went eight races without scoring points until he scored his first at the Austrian Grand Prix, finishing 10th.[29] It was the first points finish for an Italian driver in Formula One since Vitantonio Liuzzi finished 6th at the 2010 Korean Grand Prix. The next race in Britain saw his first retirement of the season, after a mechanical problem caused him to spin out into a gravel trap.[30] He crashed out on the last lap of the Belgian Grand Prix, having been running in 9th place. It later emerged that the crash caused Alfa Romeo to consider Giovinazzi's future with the team, with team principal Frédéric Vasseur saying "We had a tough discussion with Antonio, because these kind of things can decide your career. We were thinking about the future."[31] At this stage of the season, Giovinazzi had collected one point, whilst teammate Räikkönen had scored 31.
