Yeni Zelanda papağanı üst familyası, Strigopoidea, ^[1] en az üç cins papağandan oluşur - Nestor, Strigops, fosil Nelepsittacus,^[2]^[3] ve muhtemelen fosil Herakles .^[4] Nestor cinsi kea, kaka, Norfolk Adası kaka ve Chatham Island kaka'dan oluşur ^[5]^[6] Strigops cinsi ikonik kakapo içerir. Mevcut tüm türler Yeni Zelanda için endemiktir .
