Microsoft Office, 1989 yılında Microsoft tarafından tanıtılan, Microsoft Windows ve Mac OS X işletim sistemlerinde birbiriyle ilişkili masaüstü uygulamaları, sunucular ve hizmetler sunan bir ticari ofis yazılım paketidir. Yapılan araştırmalara göre, Haziran 2009 itibariyle işletmelerin %80'i Microsoft Office'in herhangi bir sürümü kullanmaktadır (Office 2007'yi kullanan işletmelerin oranı %64 civarındadır).^[1]

Güncel sürümleri Windows için Office 2013 11 Aralık 2012 tarihinde, Mac OS X için Office 2011 ise 26 Ekim 2010 tarihinde piyasaya sürüldü.

Normalde Microsoft Office 2010'un sürüm numarasının "13.0" olması gerekiyordu ama Microsoft, 13'ün uğursuzluk getireceğine inandığı için bu sürümü "14.0" olarak belirledi.

Microsoft Office 2010 Beta 2 sürümü, 16 Kasım 2009 tarihinde MSDN ve Microsoft Connect sitelerinde, ardından 18 Kasım 2009 tarihinde Microsoft Office Beta web sitesinde yayınlandı. Office 2010'un sadece Windows'u destekleyecek olan sürümleri, hem 32 bit hem de 64 bit paketler şeklinde ayrı ayrı piyasaya sürülecektir. Microsoft, bu sürümü Nisan 2010'da piyasaya sürmeyi planlıyor. Ayrıca bu sürümün Mac OS X tabanlı paketinin ise 2010 Aralık ayında çıkması bekleniyor.

Bunun dışında Microsoft'un, bir sonraki sürümü "Office 15" kod adlı sürümü planlamaya başladığı söyleniyor.
