Edward Donovan'ın çizimi, c. 1802 - 1808

Edward Donovan (1768 - 1837) Anglo-İrlandalı yazar, doğa tarihi ressamı ve amatör zoolog. Donovan, türleri gözlemlemek için başka ülkelere gitmedi, ancak diğer doğa bilimcilerinin koleksiyonlarına dayanan birçok türü topladı, tanımladı ve resimledi. Birçok kitabı başarılıydı ve biyoloji için bir kaynak olarak kaldı. 1807'de Londro Doğa Tarihi Müzesi'ni kurdu. Ancak Donovan'ın pahalı alımları, vicdansız (ona göre) kitap yayıncılarıyla olan kötü ilişkileri ve Napolyon Savaşları'ndan sonra İngiltere'de gerçekleşen ekonomik düşüş, müzenin 1817'de kapanmasına ve 1818'de Donovan'ın koleksiyonunu açık arttırmayla satmasına neden oldu. 1837'de büyük bir aileyi yardıma muhtaç bırakarak beş parasız öldü.
