Sheffield Football Club, dünyanın en eski futbol kulübüdür. Kuzey İngiltere'de bulunan Sheffield şehri'nin takımı olan kulüp 1857 yılında kurulmuştur.[1]

Natheniel Creswick ve William Prest adlı iki eski Harrow okulu mensubu 24 Ekim 1857'de Sheffield FC'yi kurdular.[2]

Herhangi bir okul ya da üniversiteye bağlı olmaksızın kurulan ilk futbol kulübü olan Sheffield FC uzun bir süre maçlarını günümüzde Sheffield United'ın sahası olan Bramall Lane'de yapmıştır.[3][4]

Kulübün kurucuları Creswick ve Prest henüz İngiliz Futbol Birliğinin oluşturulmadığı bir dönemde, Sheffield kuralları adı verilen futbol oyununun genel kurallarını da çizme fırsatı buldular. O döneme kadar genellikle her okul ya da üniversite kendilerine özgü kurallarla futbolu oynuyorlardı. Nitekim Futbol Birliğinin kuruluşundan sonraki dönemde de Sheffield FC kendi kurallarıyla futbol oynamaya 1878 yılına kadar devam edecekti.[5]

Sheffield FC'nin, komşu Hallam FC ile 1861 yılından beri oynadığı futbol maçları dünyanın en eski yerel derbisi olarak kabul edilmektedir. İki kulüpte günümüzde İngiltere Kuzey Bölgesi Doğu Liginde bulunmaktadırlar.[6][7]
