Tepeli güvercin (Ocyphaps lophotes), güvercingiller (Columbidae) familyasında sınıflanan Ocyphaps cinsinin içerdiği yegane türdür.
Taksonomiyle ilgili internet kaynaklarında, tepeli güvercinin şu iki alt türü olduğu gösterilir:[1][2][3][4]
- Ocyphaps lophotes lophotes
- Ocyphaps lophotes whitlocki
Bu kaynaklardan ITIS ve Wikispecies'de, tepeli güvercinin bilimsel adı Ocyphaps lophotes'in eş anlamlısının Geophaps lophotes olduğu belirtilmektedir ama bu adın günümüzde geçerliliği yoktur.[5] Geophaps lophotes bilimsel adı bu türün Geophaps cinsinde sınıflanmasına neden olur ki, bir başka internet kaynağı olan Taxonomicon'da tepeli güvercini bu şekilde sınıflamıştır.[6]
