McClintock 1927 yılında [[botanik]] dalında [[Cornell Üniversitesi]]'nden [[Doktora]] aldı. Burada mısır sitogenetiği dalında öncü çalışmalarda bulundu. 1920'lerin sonunda itibaren McClintock, [[kromozom]]lar ve mısırda üreme sırasında nasıl değiştiğiyle ilgili çalışmalar yaptı.rme

Burada mısır sitogenetiği dalında öncü çalışmalarda bulundu. 1920'lerin sonunda itibaren McClintock, kromozomlar ve mısırda üreme sırasında nasıl değiştiğiyle ilgili çalışmalar yaptı. İlk kez mısırın genetik haritasını çıkardı. Nobel Fizyoloji veya Tıp Ödülünü transpozonları keşfinden dolayı kazanmıştır.
