Adı 1812 Savaşı'nda ABD Deniz Kuvvetleri'nin zaferine katkıda bulunup "Hero of Lake Erie" ("Erie Gölü Kahramanı") olarak anılan Komodor Oliver Hazard Perry (Matthew Calbraith Perry'nin ağabeyi)’den alınmıştır.

FFG-12 adını II. Dünya Savaşı'nda ölen komutan George Philip’ten aldı. FFG-12 1980 yılında denize indirildi, 2003 yılında hizmetten alındı. FFG-14 ise adını Amiral John H. Sides’tan aldı. 1981 yılında hizmete giren FFG-14 İran-Irak savaşı sırasında İran Hava Yollarına ait IR-655 sefer sayılı yolcu uçağının vurulması 60’ı çocuk 290 yolcunun ölmesi olayına dolaylı olarak karıştı. Sides, bu sırada İran karasularındaydı. ABD hükümeti İran’a 61,8 milyon dolar tazminat ödedi.
