Kolektif savunma genellikle bir antlaşma ve kuruluş tarafından kurulan, üye ülkelerin birbirlerini dış tehditlere karşı savundukları bir düzenlemedir. NATO en çok bilinen kolektif savunma örgütüdür. Örgütün bir üyeye yapılan saldırının tüm üyelere yapıldığını belirten beşinci maddesi ilk kez 11 Eylül saldırılarının ardından uygulandı.
