Galli oyuncu tam yedi kez Akademi Ödülü'ne aday gösterilmiş ama bu ödülü hiç alamamıştı. Bir zamanlar Hollywood'un en çok kazanan oyuncuydu. İkinci eşi aktris Elizabeth Taylor'la olan fırtınalı evliliği sürekli olarak kamuoyunun ilgisini çekti.
