Depeche Mode, Basildon, Essex çıkışlı New Wave grubu. New Romantic`lerin en önemli gruplarındandır. 1980 yılında Composition Of Sound ismiyle Martin L. Gore, Andy Fletcher ve Vince Clarke tarafından kurulmuştur. David 'Dave' Gahan'ın katılmasından sonra Depeche Mode (Fransız Moda dergisi aynı zamanda) ismini almışlardır. Daha sonra Vince Clarke (Yazoo ve Erasure) gruptan ayrılmış ve 1982 yılında Alan Wilder gruba dahil olmuştur. Alan Wilder (Recoil), 1 Haziran 1995 tarihinde gruptan ayrılmıştır.
80'li yıllarda Synth-Pop olarak nitelenen türleri gittikçe rock'a doğru kaymıştır. David Gahan gelmiş geçmiş en iyi erkek vokaller arasında sayılmaktadır. Bir çok müzisyen tarafından şarkıları coverlanan grup efsanevi gruplar arasında yer almaktadır.
Günümüzdeki kadrosu, Dave Gahan, Martin L. Gore ve Andy Fletcher'dan oluşmaktadır.
'Music For The Masses', 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion' ve 'Violator' başarılı albümlerindendir.
Türkiye'de, Abdi İpekçi (30 Ekim 2001) ve Kuruçeşme Arena (30 Temmuz 2006)'da Avrupa Turu kapsamındaki İstanbul konserleri gerçekleşmiştir.
6 Ekim 2008 tarihinde, Berlin Olimpiyat Stadında gerçekleşen basın toplantısı açıklaması sonrası, Depeche Mode'un 12. albümü 'Sounds of the Universe' 2009 yılının Nisan ayında yayımlandı. Bu albümünden çıkan ilk single 'Wrong' olmuştur. Depeche Mode'un 'Tour of the Universe' adlı turne kapsamındaki İstanbul konseri 14 Mayıs 2009 tarihinde gerçekleşmesi planlanırken, Dave Gahan'ın 12 Mayıs 2009 tarihindeki Atina konseri öncesi hastalanması sonucu iptal edilmiştir. Albümün ikinci single'ı 'Peace', 2009 yılının Haziran ayında yayımlanmıştır. Albümün son single'ı ise 'Fragile Tension/Hole To Feed' olmuştur.
Depeche Mode, 2011 yılının Haziran ayında ikinci Remixes (81-11) albümünü yayımladı. 30 Mayıs 2011'de albümün ilk single'ı 'Personal Jesus 2011' piyasaya çıkmıştır.
23 Ekim 2012 tarihinde Paris'te düzenlenen basın toplantısında, 2013 yılı Avrupa turu kapsamındaki konser programı açıklanmıştır. Bu programa göre 17 Mayıs 2013 tarihinde, Küçükçiftlik Park'ta İstanbul konserleri gerçekleşecektir.
24 Ocak 2013 tarihinde resmi internet sitesinden yapılan açıklamaya göre, Depeche Mode'un 13. stüdyo albümü 'Delta Machine' 26 Mart 2013 tarihinde yayımlanacaktır. Albümde 13 şarkı bulunurken, albümün ilk single'ı olacak olan 'Heaven' adlı şarkının videosu 01 Şubat 2013 tarihinden itibaren ekranlarda olacaktır. www.DepecheMode.com
